According to Karina Longworth’s fabulous “You Must Remember This” podcast, Ridley Scott only directed “Thelma & Louise” because critics panned “Black Rain.” Despite “Black Rain” making over $130 million, he felt that he had something to prove (plus his brother Tony said no to directing).

Makes you wonder, without “Black Rain” what would “Thelma & Louise” have been? Does it even get made?

Plus, most moviegoers probably would think “Thelma & Louise” did better at the box office than “Black Rain,” given its place in our culture. Yet “Thelma & Louise” only made $45 million.

Thanks for writing.
