Returning To Medium: Programming Change
For the past year and a half, I have mostly ignored Medium. I have a newsletter called The Dissenter for publishing articles on whistleblowers, government secrecy, and press freedom.
I now believe there might be some value to publishing on this platform, though not news articles or political essays.
Going forward, I will use Medium to post and share writings on film that I produce when not engaged in the journalism that can be found at my newsletter. I hope that publishing to Medium will help me attract a wider audience for my reviews and essays on movies (like several of the posts that I previously shared).
Shifting my focus does pose a bit of a dilemma. Over 600 people follow my profile. This change could be jarring to you, as you suddenly see content that is different from what I primarily have shared over the past five years.
I thank all 630 of you for reading and commenting on my writing and recommend that you become a free subscriber of The Dissenter. Then you can unfollow me here.
Many of the posts to Medium were re-published from Shadowproof or The Dissenter. They were not original pieces for Medium. I shared them to benefit from Medium’s Partner Program, and sometimes the articles generated a bit of revenue that helped me derive some income for work that I had produced for free.
I probably will delete several of these republished posts. Their removal will be for the purpose of curation and re-establishing this space as one for writings on film.
This programming change comes as Medium has revamped their partner program, and I would like to take advantage of it.
If you’re interested in reading something different from what brought you here, then thank you for your openness to another side of me. If this is your cue to unfollow, thank you for being one of my regular readers and good luck to you.
