“What are the issues we do agree on that we can focus on through 2020 so that we are more unified and focus on getting DJT out of the WH?”
I reject the notion that everyone united in challenging or resisting Donald Trump cannot also disagree on the way forward to defeat Trump and move onward after Trump is defeated — and still beat Trump in 2020.
So-called moderates seem to want us all to be afraid that debate on policy and issues will be weaponized by Republicans to give them easy opportunities to score points against Democrats. At least, that’s what many moderates say. It seems this is their way of constraining discussion and limit the politics of the possible.
You jumping in here to insist that we figure out what we agree upon is also similar. It is gatekeeping. Ever since the 1990s, it has been pretty easy for the establishment to control its progressive or more left-wing base. Not anymore.
We’ve let “moderates” run the show for a couple decades. It proved feckless when met with the threats posed by Bush Jr. and Trump. Now, there are strong progressive voices leading the way, who do not compromise when it comes to fighting for justice and economic human rights. That’s the way it should be.
That’s probably not the answer you hoped for, but it’s the answer that is warranted.
